In Gloucester we have some of the best whale watch companies in the world. We are closest to the whales and do a sophisticated job of teaching our passengers about the whales, their environment, and the importance of preserving the ocean.

Many people feel the difference between us and other whale watch companies is first of all our vessel. The brand new Privateer IV is the cleanest, most comfortable and elegant vessel north of Boston. It is one of the fastest in the city which allows us to get to the greatest density of whales in the area while getting you back to port on schedule.

Our vessel is the most spacious of any vessel anywhere. It was built for 300 people, however, we only carry 150 passengers per trip to assure your comfort and pleasure. Key features include:
  • Climate-Controlled, Spacious Cabin
  • Cushoned Seating with Large Tables
  • Wall-to-Wall Carpeting
  • Wraparound Windows
  • Modern, Clean Restrooms
  • Onboard Educational Station
  • Cetacean (Whale) Library

We are unsurpassed in our emphasis on education. We have the most experienced and most traveled naturalist of any company anywhere. Our naturalists have studied whales in many oceans of the world and are personable and approachable which adds to your experience of the whales. Our crews are always complimented on their friendliness and helpfulness. We feel that our service to our passengers is unequaled by any whale watch company anywhere.

The Privateer IV is a Coast Guard certified passenger vessel and is equipped with the latest safety and navigational equipment.

Your captains have spent the majority of their lives on the ocean. Captains Paul and Sebby grew up in Gloucester and were captains on board Gloucester fishing vessels. The years spent searching out the most productive fishing areas of the Gulf of Maine have given them a unique and intimate knowledge of the wildlife that frequents the area and where it can be found. We adhere to the whalewatch guidelines set forth by the National Marine Fisheries Service for safe and respectful boat conduct around the whales.
